A Song a Week 12: The Bad Felt – Bones (Inside of You)

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Hey everybody, a new song from The Bad Felt! Here’s my thought process every time I hear Bren’s vocals on a song: “Hmmm… that’s not how I was picturing it… oh wait, I see what he’s doing… oh man, that’s awesome!” And that’s the great thing about collaborating with someone, you get someone else’s vision in the mix and are able to be surprised by something you worked on. I especially love the talking part at the end.

A Song a Week 11: The Honorable Mentions – One Whole Piece (The Nemesis Remix)

Friday, March 19th, 2010

I’ve mentioned The Honorable Mentions here before as the band that inspired me to do the song a week challenge. This is a remix of one of my favorite songs they did for the challenge last year. Huge thanks to Matt for tracking down the original files and sending them to me.
I’m really happy with how it came out, the drums and synth are kind of a mix of the style I use for tow knee chavez and the Hitmaker Algorithm. I was originally going to do 100% original electronic music, but Matt sent the ukulele track to help me line up the timing on the notes, and I ended up including it (with some death metal effects added). I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

A Song A Week 10: The Nemesis (featuring Maps) – Issues and Subscriptions

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I recorded this in February, but had to wait until the block of love songs was over to post it. This was recorded for a reverse remix contest on the The Painted Man blog. The idea was to take this instrumental track and write and record lyrics for it. I’m pretty happy with the lyrics, but the song was a bit out of my range so I think the vocals turned out pretty badly.

A Song a Week 9: The Nemesis – I Wish I Could

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Here’s another rerecording of one of my older songs. This was actually the first song I ever recorded solo, as a Christmas present for Ashley the first year we were married. I’ve never been happy with that recording, and I’m still not 100% happy with this one. The guitar sounds a little weird to me in the intro (and the other two times it does that riff) and I’m not quite satisfied with the vocal take, but it’s Friday so it’s time to post it.

I’m working on an eight song EP of all the love songs I’ve recorded over the years and had hoped to post the album today, but that didn’t quite work out. As I said, I’m not satisfied with this one yet, and there are a couple of other songs that I want to redo vocals for or alter the mix a bit. I’m hoping to still have it done by the end of the month, and will post about it here when it’s available.
