A Song A Week 30: The Bad Felt – I’m Sad Because I’m Happy

Friday, July 30th, 2010

I was explaining the concept behind The Bad Felt to a friend the other day, and told her that we tend to pick darker songs from Sesame Street. She was surprised that there were any dark songs on Sesame Street. I told her that Count songs and Grouch songs tend to work the best. This is a Grouch song.

A Song A Week 25: The Bad Felt – ABCs of the Swamp

It’s time for another Bad Felt song, and here one is. This song ended up very different than I originally pictured it, but I’m pretty happy with it. New Bad Felt song… not much to say about it. Once again I’m very thankful that Bren is part of this group, since the songs are always a hundred times better when I hear his vocals on them. My favorite part is when Bren sounds like he himself is the monster.

For this song we decided to each sing, since there is more than one vocal track in the original. Bren does his normal Tom Waits inspired voice, while I match his vocals with my Nick Cave inspired voice.

Hey everybody, a new song from The Bad Felt! Here’s my thought process every time I hear Bren’s vocals on a song: “Hmmm… that’s not how I was picturing it… oh wait, I see what he’s doing… oh man, that’s awesome!” And that’s the great thing about collaborating with someone, you get someone else’s vision in the mix and are able to be surprised by something you worked on. I especially love the talking part at the end.
