Here’s another rerecording of one of my older songs. This was actually the first song I ever recorded solo, as a Christmas present for Ashley the first year we were married. I’ve never been happy with that recording, and I’m still not 100% happy with this one. The guitar sounds a little weird to me in the intro (and the other two times it does that riff) and I’m not quite satisfied with the vocal take, but it’s Friday so it’s time to post it.

I’m working on an eight song EP of all the love songs I’ve recorded over the years and had hoped to post the album today, but that didn’t quite work out. As I said, I’m not satisfied with this one yet, and there are a couple of other songs that I want to redo vocals for or alter the mix a bit. I’m hoping to still have it done by the end of the month, and will post about it here when it’s available.

We’ve come to the end of our month of love songs, but I still have one more to post next week. I changed a line towards the end of this song… the original line was “I won’t kill you with a knife.” Who would have guessed Ashley would think that was creepy and not romantic? And who would have guessed that so few words rhyme with “wife?”

This song is kind of a cover of my own song. The original version appears on Top Songs, with just vocals and synths. The new version is sped up some, has rerecorded vocals, and now features guitar in addition to the synths. I think this might be my first guitar solo, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

My friend Jen (of Honorable Mentions fame) mentioned one of my songs in her journal comic. For those who don’t regularly read her comic, she draws herself as a cat, but Moe is actually a cat. Moe is not a fan of my songwriting.
